Alone in bed the disappointment settles in
Instant replay of every flaw and every sin
I keep drifting toward the darkness in my mind
Where waves of shame pull me down and I'm inclined
To maybe float into that sea
And let the salt wash over me
I don't know what I expected
When I walked in there with my heart protected

But it's just something that I projected
Internalized too many thoughtless remarks
Spent hours dwelling over casual disregard
To shield myself from words that weren't even true
I built up walls that blocked off my view
Of who I am and I could be
A self-fulfilling prophecy
